SF and Fantasy Movie Reviews Starting With Q

Quatermass and the Pit (1967 UK)       **

Genres: SF

The movie is low-budget in the British way, meaning lots of shots of people running around cheap sets rather than special effects. Or milling around, more often. And lots of face-time and dialogue. It's also shabby in other ways, like pronunciation -- they couldn't get actors who know how to pronounce "lichen." Nevertheless, it's neat to see other cultures' takes on SF. In the UK, when aliens try to control your mind, you have a tankard of whiskey and punch the mind-controlled woman and all is much improved. Or possibly milling around is the thing to do and the drinking is something one does no matter what else is going on . . .

Queen of the Damned (2002)       **

Genres: Hor Act

This vampire movie has plenty of action and a decent amount of gore and dark sexiness, and manages a more or less reasonable plot while it's at it. The plot is pretty silly, but not very silly. The guy is pretty decorative but sort of gay-looking, which is appropriate for a vampire.
