SF and Fantasy Movie Reviews Starting With ZZardoz (1974 UK) Genres: SF In some ways it's a bad movie. It's slow and boring, full of scenes that go on for three times longer than it takes to get anything out of it. And they don't go to any trouble to make the science make any sense. But the plot's OK for this sort of movie. If you're looking for logic then you're mistaken; this plot is for making nice scenes. The movie is visual and atmospheric. This means that it's short on interesting dialogue. This might also account for them figuring they could go on and on with the scenes, because the imagery is so enjoyable. The imagery isn't bad. But if they'd cut thirty minutes out it would have been a much better movie. Zathura (2005) NR Genres: SF Adv Kid Watched: trailer You don't want to see Jumanji in Space. The only reason you would spend money on this is because your kids want to see it. And you think you should indulge them. This is exactly the kind of thinking that's going to ruin this country. It's much better both for your kids and for everyone else if you smack them instead and make them read Moby Dick. Please note that all material on this page is Copyright © 2005 by D. Aline Lurie. |
