If there were any ceremonies like at BM before the burn, we missed them, because the effigy was just catching in earnest when we arrived. Everyone was standing close and every vantage point was seemingly a good one - we watched it burn where we'd come up in the back of the circle of people, and we saw fine.

The burn was relaxed and casual, compared with the BM burn, where people get pretty emotional. This was a big bonfire, a fitting conclusion to the big outdoor campout party. Burning a squat jovial man seems to create a different atmosphere. I guess it helps to be skinny if you want folks to take your martrydom seriously.
