Flipside is arranged around a hill, with the effigy of the Man in the middle of the glade at the top. When we arrived Friday morning, the Man was largely done and we could go up his ramp. The railing wasn't quite finished, but a fall would be only about a dozen feet. I could also climb the steel pyramid nearby. When I went up it again the next day, they'd added the second, higher platform. The finished pyramid was 50 feet.

My understanding is that this land doesn't see continual use, and Lord, don't it rain here. So no-one will mind if you use the native resources to flower your friend's hair. What the ranger told us when we were setting up camp was "just don't chop down the big trees."

She made the tutu costume herself. And also the fluffy one.

I'm pretty sure they made this one themselves.

Do you notice a trend here? Yes, they are all pretty and happy. But also, they're all wearing hiking shoes or boots.

I was happy with my army boots before Flipside. They're comfy, rugged, stylish, and cheap. At Flipside they really shined. They gripped the steep mucky trails like no shoes I've ever had before; it seemed impossible to step wrong or slip with those boots on.

Isn't this the cutest outfit? I asked to take his photo and he kept looking at me like that, but didn't say no. So I went ahead, and then told him how thrilled I was with the picture, and also that I was going to give him a big hug because he was just so gosh-darn adorable! Then the strangest thing happened ... he jumped off the platform. Go figure.
